Surgeons at Northside Hospital Forsyth implanted a Barostim NEO™ device in a patient for the first time recently.
The Barostim Neo from CVRx® is an advanced heart failure and hypertension management system. Northside Hospital Heart Institute's Dr. Siddharth Patel and Dr. Alok Gambhir performed the procedure Tuesday, Feb. 21.
“We are excited about the launch of our Barostim program, in conjunction with our esteemed cardiology colleagues, to further improve the lives of our heart failure patients," said Dr. Patel.
The implantable pulse generator stimulates natural sensors in the body to tell the brain how to regulate the heart, relieving the symptoms of heart failure. The device is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and has been shown in clinical studies to improve symptoms of heart failure and quality of life for patients.
It is the only heart failure device therapy that does not require any hardware in the heart or blood vessels.
