Northside Hospital Gwinnett began offering robotic-assisted bronchoscopy in 2023 and has already completed 100 cases.
On Dec. 21, Dr. Prasad Garimella, who oversees the Lung Nodule Clinic at Northside Gwinnett, performed the hospital’s 100th robotic-assisted bronchoscopy.
Robotic-assisted bronchoscopy is available for patients who have suspicious lung nodules requiring tissue sampling (biopsy). This minimally invasive procedure enables physicians to biopsy hard-to-reach nodules far into the peripheral lung.
Additional benefits of robotic-assisted bronchoscopy include increased accuracy, fewer complications and a faster time to diagnosis and treatment.
At the time Northside Hospital Gwinnett acquired this innovative equipment, Dr. Garimella reported, “This safe and accurate technology helps us save more lives by detecting lung cancer at an earlier stage.”
“Robotic bronchoscopy has been a remarkable addition to our interventional pulmonary program,” said Kailey Bryan, R.N., BSN, MHCI, interventional pulmonary nurse navigator.
“Dr. Naveed Sheikh and Dr. Garimella have both done an incredible job developing the skills and expertise to get to hard-to-reach nodules so our patients can get faster diagnosis and faster treatments, ultimately leading to better patient outcomes,” added Bryan.
Robotic-assisted bronchoscopy is available at Northside’s campuses in Atlanta, Cherokee, Forsyth and Gwinnett.
