The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce recently recognized the Northside Hospital Cherokee Auxiliary as the 2023 Nonprofit of the Year.
The award was presented Jan. 19 during the 52nd annual meeting of the chamber. Northside Hospital Cherokee was the event sponsor.
Accepting the award were Auxiliary executive board President Brenda Hunton and Treasurer Linda Kinder, along with Lori Campbell, volunteer services and gift shop manager of Northside Cherokee.
The Auxiliary dates to 1961 and has more than 155 active members who combine to donate more than 50,000 hours of service in Cherokee County and surrounding communities. The Auxiliary is the organization behind the Volunteer Services at Northside Hospital Cherokee and is a vital part of care the hospital delivers.
The Auxiliary also operates the hospital’s gift shop. Gift shop and vendor sales allow the Auxiliary board to raise funds, and the profits go back to the community to purchase items such as wheelchairs or special care nursery equipment.
Members of the executive board are Hunton, Vice President Dexter Lukban, Secretary Barbara Buchanan, Kinder and Co-Treasurer Jan Zorn.
Jennifer Stanley, community relations coordinator for Northside Cherokee, is a member of the chamber’s board of directors.
