In Memoriam: Retired Northside CEO Sidney Kirschner

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Sidney Kirschner, former president and CEO of Northside Hospital. Mr. Kirschner died Tuesday, Feb. 21 at the age of 88.

Sid Kirschner served on Northside's board of directors from 1984 and became president and CEO of the hospital following his retirement from National Service Industries in 1992.

According to “First on The Hill” by Charles M. Silverstein, M.D., Mr. Kirschner’s “taking the helm at Northside had an immediate, profoundly positive impact. The physicians were delighted. They knew him, they liked and respected him and, most important, they trusted him. And the feeling was genuinely mutual.”

During Mr. Kirschner’s tenure at Northside, he championed the hospital’s commitment to the health and wellness of the community, to community service and to increasing access to high-quality health care across North Metro Atlanta.

He was the driving force behind the development of Northside Hospital Atlanta's state-of-the-art Women's Center, which opened in May 1999 to regional and national acclaim.

Under Mr. Kirschner’s leadership, Northside expanded its footprint significantly, including the creation of the Northside Alpharetta Medical Campus, Northside Hospital Cherokee and Northside Hospital Forsyth.

Sid Kirschner retired from Northside Hospital in 2004, after 12 years of dedicated service to the hospital.

We express our condolences to the Kirschner family.
