Each year, Northside Hospital marks National Rehabilitation Awareness Week — a time to recognize the benefits of medical rehabilitation and to celebrate the successes of those who have received treatment through all forms of rehab.
About the celebration: National Rehabilitation Awareness Week is a time to express appreciation for rehab experts and assistants who work as physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and cardiac therapists. It began in 1976 in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
At Northside: Across the Northside system, employees are enjoying special meals, parties and theme days to celebrate.
The celebration this year carries special significance as Northside Hospital Glancy Rehabilitation Center in Duluth marks its 35th anniversary.
Mayor Nancy Harris was expected to issue a proclamation for National Rehabilitation Awareness Week.
Glancy Rehabilitation Center — the former Joan Glancy Memorial Hospital — reopened in December after an extensive renovation. It offers a wide range of inpatient rehabilitation services including advanced equipment, rehabilitation technologies and innovative programs. It’s located at 3215 McClure Bridge Road in Duluth.
Glancy is one of 12 rehabilitation centers in the Northside system, in Cherokee, Forsyth, Fulton and Gwinnett counties, but is the only inpatient center.
