Northside Hospital Atlanta, Cherokee, Duluth and Forsyth recently received accreditation under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a joint quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
MBSAQIP is a comprehensive, nationwide surgical quality program aimed at ensuring the safe and effective performance of metabolic and bariatric surgery. Surgical outcomes focus on weight loss and the treatment of obesity-related diseases, like diabetes, sleep apnea, and others. As an MBSAQIP-accredited hospital, these Northside locations have also become an ACS Surgical Quality Partner. Being a Surgical Quality Partner signifies a hospital’s dedication to consistently improving procedures and approaches while maintaining a critical eye on process at every step.
“For our bariatric program, this recognition represents a milestone of excellence,” said Dr. Eric Velazquez, medical director of Northside Hospital Surgery and Weight Management Program.
“It signifies that Northside is not just a place where surgeries happen but a center of excellence dedicated to transforming lives through bariatric surgery. We have always been committed to providing the highest standards of surgical care, and this designation serves as validation of our unwavering dedication."
“Being a Surgical Quality Partner signifies that Northside is dedicated to excellence in surgical outcomes, patient safety, and continuous improvement," Dr. Velazquez added. “Beyond the surgical procedure itself, we understand that success in bariatric surgery is intertwined with comprehensive support. We focus on empowering our patients with the knowledge, resources, and mindset needed for long-term success. This recognition reinforces that our approach, encompassing lifestyle changes, psychological support, and post-operative care, is indeed leading-edge and patient-centric.”
