Northside Hospital’s support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association has helped in the search for treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, more commonly known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease.
“We are so grateful for the opportunity to partner with Northside Hospital,” MDA’s Lisa Kirksey, account manager, signature events, said.
“Northside Hospital has supported the Muscular Dystrophy Association through our annual Night of Hope Gala for ALS research for over 12 years. All proceeds from the Night of Hope Gala support ALS research, advocacy and support, and over $11.2 million has been raised through the Night of Hope Gala to bring awareness to ALS.”
That money was crucial on the road to a breakthrough: Food and Drug Administration approval earlier this year of toferson for the treatment of ALS.
“This is the fourth approved therapy to treat a form of ALS and the very first that targets the genetic cause of ALS,” Kirksey said.
The 17th annual Night of Hope Gala is scheduled for March 23 at the InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta.
