Five physicians in the Graduate Medical Education program at Northside Hospital Gwinnett have been chosen as chief residents for 2024-25.
They are Dr. Shaen Deimling, Dr. Walid Hmissa, Dr. Kiara Jamison, Dr. Bryan Kamalakar and Dr. Richard Khanal, all part of the Internal Medicine Class of 2025.
“We congratulate those rising third-year Internal Medicine residents who have been appointed as chief resident for the 2024-2025 academic year,” Dr. Mark Darrow, designated institutional officer and director of graduate medical education, said.
“It recognizes their commitment to excellence in medicine and their leadership abilities.”
Dr. Shaen Deimling graduated from Collins Hill High School in Suwanee and has degrees in cellular biology and computer science from the University of Georgia. He completed his medical education at the Medical College of Georgia and is interested in internal medicine and imaging.
Dr. Walid Hmissa was born in Ukraine and is of Moroccan descent. He immigrated to and grew up in Bradenton, Florida, and earned his undergraduate degree in clinical laboratory science at Florida Gulf Coast University. Dr. Hmissa is a 2022 graduate of the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, and he is interested in infectious disease, critical care and preventative medicine.
Dr. Kiara Jamison was born and raised in Delaware and was inspired to enter the medical field after witnessing a great-grandmother experience a stroke and a younger sister have severe asthma. Dr. Jamison earned bachelor’s degrees in biology and sociology at Fisk University and a master’s in biomolecular science at Lipscomb University. She was chief medical student during her time at Lincoln Memorial University–DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Bryan Kamalakar was born in New York but raised in Loganville. He double majored in biology and microbiology at the University of Georgia and completed his medical school training at the Georgia campus of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is interested in teaching and medical education and incorporating evidence-based medicine in everyday care for patients.
Dr. Richard Khanal is a native of Nepal. After graduating from the National Medical College in Birgunj, Nepal, Dr. Khanal moved to the U.S. to pursue the opportunity to practice in a top health care system. He is interested in primary care, cardiology and endocrinology.
