On February 5, 2021, Diane Peters fell and suffered a traumatic brain injury. Her daughter, Lauren, initially thought it was a stroke, and Diane was rushed to the hospital.
“Even though my mom was being treated in Alpharetta, our family knew that she had to be transferred to Northside under Dr. Robinson’s care,” recalls daughter Lauren.
Northside neurosurgeon Dr. Jim Robinson, was recommend to the family by a friend.
“At this point, my mother could not walk upright, her speech was slurred, and she couldn’t remember her own birthday," Lauren remembers. "After a biopsy of her brain, Dr. Robinson diagnosed my mom with a rare form of cancer--Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma."
Dr. Robinson referred Diane to an oncologist that specializes in this rare form of cancer.
“Mom frequently asks about her diagnosis and the steps involved in her care. All I can tell her is that we are truly blessed to have such an amazing team of doctors working together to heal her brain,” says Lauren.
Now, Diane is taking things day-by-day, thankful for progress and the frontline heroes at Northside. As for her latest check-up, her brain scans show dramatic improvement. When we asked what she does for fun, her answer, “beat cancer.”
