Mother’s Day weekend 2021, Sarah arrived at the Northside Hospital Cherokee Emergency Department with severe abdominal pain. A tumor was discovered in her uterus.

Within a week, Sarah met with Dr. Angela Falany at North Georgia OB/GYN Specialists, a Northside network provider, who recommended Sarah undergo a total hysterectomy. Not long after surgery, Sarah was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. She had no family history of the disease.

Sarah was referred to medical oncologist Dr. Gena Volas-Redd with Georgia Cancer Specialists, affiliated with Northside Hospital Cancer Institute. Dr. Volas-Redd immediately started Sarah on a chemotherapy program.

In January 2022, Sarah's follow-up scans showed no evidence of cancer.

With the help of the doctors, and the support of her friends and family, Sarah is now able to focus on her health and four precious children. She wants to educate others about colonoscopies.
