Explained: 5 heart-healthy foods to add to your diet

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one person dies from cardiovascular disease every 34 seconds in the U.S. Lifestyle factors — diabetes, overweight and obesity, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, and excessive alcohol use — can put you at a higher risk for heart disease.

In this episode of Explained, cardiology physician assistant, Negin Bauer, discusses five heart-healthy foods to help reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease.

For example, fruits and vegetables are part of a well-balanced diet. They are a low-calorie and low-fat source of vitamins, minerals, and fiber, and they contain phytochemicals and antioxidants that protect against heart disease.

Explained is a series of short videos where Northside experts explain common patient questions.
