Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common condition in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep, decreasing airflow into the lungs. It is estimated that at least 24% of men and 9% of women in the U.S. meet the criteria for OSA.

Common symptoms of OSA are snoring, choking and gasping, nocturnal awakenings, restless sleep, waking up not feeling refreshed and daytime sleepiness. Untreated OSA has been associated with hypertension, coronary artery disease and depression.

In this video, watch as Dr. Jason Krahnke discusses sleep apnea and effective treatment options.

Explained is a series of short videos where Northside experts explain common patient questions.
