Northside 101: Head and neck cancers

Dr. Gregory Ward, a head and neck surgical oncologist, shares crucial information on the various types of head and neck cancers, their common locations, symptoms and risk factors.

Head and neck cancers primarily affect the mouth, nasal passages, throat, voice box and salivary glands. These cancers can also involve the lymph nodes and include thyroid cancers. Depending on the cancer's location, symptoms can vary significantly. Risks include tobacco use (smoking and chewing), alcohol consumption and HPV-related infections.

Remember, early detection saves lives. Talk to your provider about what screenings are right for you.
