Northside 101 is a series of interviews with Northside Hospital's experts, breaking down complex medical terms and procedures.
In this episode, Dr. J. Jeffrey Marshall, chief cardiologist at Northside Hospital Cardiovascular Institute, discusses heart health and heart disease.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. The term “heart disease” refers to several types of heart conditions. The most common type of heart disease is coronary artery disease (CAD), which can lead to a heart attack.
Heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year – more than all cancers combined. The older a woman gets, the more likely she is to get heart disease, but women of all ages should be concerned about heart disease. All women can take steps to prevent it by practicing healthy lifestyle habits.
