Northside Hospital Forsyth has added a 16-bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) to care for patients with higher acuity pulmonary and cardiac issues.
The new unit opened in spring 2024 and is located adjacent to the hospital's 24-bed ICU. All rooms are equipped with cardiac monitoring capability.
“As our community grows, so does our need to be able to expertly care for patients with higher acuity conditions,” said Amy Browning, MHA, R.N., CV-BC, FACHE, director of critical care services at Northside Forsyth. “This opening increases our intermediate bed capacity at Northside Hospital Forsyth to 52 beds, creating an elasticity to ensure we are meeting the demands of patients that need to be admitted through our Emergency Department or coming into our facility for planned surgical procedures.”
In addition to serving patients, the new IMCU offers a training space for clinical staff to grow their skills and knowledge, with residency programs that serve as a foundation for new career levels.
“Investing in our community’s care starts with investing in the excellence of our clinical staff,” Browning said. “Our aim is to match the nursing skill and expertise and our hospital programs to the care environment that patients need.”
Further expansion is planned, as patient care needs change.
