Friends of Disabled Adults and Children, or FODAC, is a Georgia nonprofit that provides refurbished home medical equipment to people with disabilities.
It started in 1985 when Ed and Annie Butchart saw a need in the community while doing volunteer work through their church. They started collecting medical equipment and repairing it in their garage, and the next year a nonprofit was incorporated.
“FODAC collects and provides home medical equipment such as wheelchairs and hospital beds to help individuals in need,” President and CEO Chris Brand said.
“Now, Northside is collaborating with FODAC to hold and distribute these items to uninsured and underinsured patients before they leave the hospital. Together, we make a huge impact on health outcomes and the quality of life for each patient.”
Northside Hospital’s support of FODAC has allowed uninsured and unfunded patients to receive needed equipment such as hospital beds, wheelchairs, patient lifts, walkers and bedside commodes.
FODAC has provided more than 300 pieces of free equipment to patients in the past year.
