Interventional pain, spine care have benefits

Back Exercise NC

Chances are, you know what it’s like to have back or neck pain. According to the National Spine Health Foundation, 1 in 3 people will experience back or neck pain in their lifetime.

Northside Hospital Interventional Pain & Spine Care and Rehabilitation Services is raising awareness about injury prevention and the benefits of interventional pain and spine care as well as physical therapy.

How can Interventional Pain & Spine Care help me with spine health?

Northside Interventional Pain & Spine Care is your destination for pain management. Our board-certified, fellowship-trained physicians develop conservative yet comprehensive treatment plans for pain relief to get you back to what you love to do. Interventional procedures include injections, nerve blocks, stimulators and other treatments. Treatment can also include a referral to physical therapy prior to or after interventional pain and spine care services to complement pain management treatments or an exercise program designed by a physical therapist.

How can physical therapy help me with spine health?

Physical therapists provide treatment and education to help you improve your ability to move and perform everyday tasks. Physical therapists examine and develop a customized plan of care using a variety of treatment techniques, exercises, and education to reduce pain, restore function, prevent injury and promote movement. Treatments may include strengthening, spinal stability and mobility exercises, conditioning, hands-on therapy, pain management, home exercise programs, and other treatments.

What is something I can do every day to help minimize the risk of back and neck pain?

Did you know 264 million workdays are lost each year due to spinal conditions?1 If you need to be in one position during the day for a prolonged time, use these strategies to prevent stiffness:

  • Wear comfortable shoes
  • Make small movements regularly
  • Tighten and relax muscles regularly
  • Use abs and core muscles to change low back position during standing and sitting
  • Avoid locking the knees while standing
  • Sit up straight

Remember to exercise and stretch regularly. Reach out to your physician and get guidance to ensure you can exercise safely and effectively.
