Each month, Northside Hospital honors special nurses with DAISY Awards. Patients and their families, along with the nurses’ co-workers, have the chance to recognize nurses for care that makes a difference.
Here are recent winners at Northside hospitals:
Northside Hospital Atlanta
May 2024: Ally Hendricks, R.N.
What they said: The nominating patient came to Northside Atlanta for a miscarriage within a month of losing two grandparents.
“Ally took such kind and compassionate care of me and my husband. She answered every question we had, calmed my nerves, and ultimately after I requested to have her back, was able to help deliver my son. … She also learned of my love of Taylor Swift’s music as I would lay in the hospital bed listening to her new album. Ally made my son tiny bracelets — the same type fans exchange at Taylor Swift concerts — with his name and the names of my grandparents on them. I was in ugly tears, it was such a special gesture.”
Northside Hospital Cherokee
May 2024: Lauren Adams, R.N.
What they said: “She was the kindest nurse I had ever met and quickly became like family. I had her off and on for almost four shifts post-baby and she took such good care of me … and became my biggest advocate when things went sideways.”
Northside Hospital Duluth
May 2024: Amanda Byrd, R.N., Fourth Floor
What they said: “I have never had a nurse be so loving, attentive and caring and to go above and beyond all the time like Amanda Byrd. I felt like my sister was taking care of me with the way she consistently treated and cared for me. You can tell that she became a nurse because she truly cares for people.”
June 2024: Bianca Reed, R.N., Emergency Department
What they said: “While the entire nursing staff at Duluth and Gwinnett took excellent care of me, Bianca went above and beyond her call of duty. She recognized how distressing it was for me being away from home while I experienced this heart episode, and the uncertainty about what would happen to my dog … and seeing that there were still good people in the world restored my faith in humanity.”
Northside Hospital Forsyth
May 2024: Anna Taylor, R.N.
What they said: “Anna, just like she did with my husband in August, gave my sweet mother the best of care and was so gentle and kind with her. She, once again, was able to answer questions for me and give me information I should know. She is very knowledgeable and so very compassionate in her care.”
June 2024: Stephenie Worrall, R.N., Special Care Nursery
What they said: “Our baby boy was born six weeks early. Stephenie was there to take care of him like her own baby. … She not only took care of our little boy but gave us so much information needed for us since we are first-time parents.”
Northside Hospital Gwinnett
May 2024: Elizabeth ‘Ebie’ McCord, BSN, R.N.
What they said: “This nurse seemed to completely understand what I needed without even asking. She sat with me and patiently talked me through everything that was happening as my father was declining. … She stood out, went so above and beyond and made such a lasting impression.”
