Gamma Knife® radiosurgery or treatment is a very highly focused radiation dose that uses specialized equipment to treat targets inside the head such as brain tumors and other abnormalities in the brain. Despite its name, the technology is not a blade that cuts. Rather, it is a highly advanced, safe, non-invasive device that uses radiation to damage targeted tissue in a very precise manner.

In this edition of Northside 101, neurosurgeon Dr. Jim Robinson discusses the basics of Gamma Knife radiosurgery treatment.

Northside 101 is a series of interviews with Northside Hospital's experts, breaking down complex medical terms and procedures.
