Northside Hospital Cancer Institute is a skilled provider of treatment and support for patients diagnosed with a brain tumor or tumors of the central nervous system (CNS).

The strength of our Brain & CNS Tumor Program is our multidisciplinary team of highly skilled, sub-specialized neurosurgeons, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists who work together every step of the way to provide individualized care for each patient diagnosed with a brain or CNS tumor. Northside's Brain & CNS Tumor Program offers a comprehensive scope of medical services, the latest technology, leading-edge clinical research and compassionate support.

Dr. Jim Robinson is the medical director of NHCI’s Brain Tumor Program.

Equipped with innovative technology, including integrated operating room (OR) suites with image-guided systems, the team is able to perform a variety of minimally invasive procedures and remain on the leading edge of patient care. 

Nearly two-thirds of all cancer patients receive radiation therapy at some point during their treatment. Northside Hospital has the most state-of-the-art, powerful and versatile radiation therapy technology available. In addition to delivering conventional forms of radiation therapy, the system can be used stereotactically to treat very small tumors in the brain, quickly and with unprecedented precision. Neurosurgeons, specifically credentialed in stereotactic radiosurgery procedures, work alongside board-certified radiation oncologists to use this innovative technology. 

At Northside Hospital Cancer Institute, we offer Gamma Knife®, a form of stereotactic radiosurgery and advanced radiation therapy. Our Brain and CNS Tumor Program has performed more brain tumor treatments utilizing Gamma Knife technology than any other hospital in Georgia. Though the name sounds like a surgical procedure, Gamma Knife is actually a non-invasive alternative to traditional brain surgery that does not involve any scalpels or incisions. Instead, it uses up to 192 focused beams of radiation to treat malignant and benign brain tumors, vascular abnormalities and functional disorders without harming surrounding healthy tissue. Treatments are delivered in the outpatient setting and the patient can return home the same day after the treatment is completed
