This year it is expected that over 54,000 people in the United States will be diagnosed with cancer of the liver or biliary system, while over 60,000 will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and nearly 150,000 will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer, according to the American Cancer Society. While many tumors are detected after workup of symptoms such as abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, or jaundice, many others are found by accident when no symptoms are present. Early detection and comprehensive treatment planning is critical to optimizing both survival and quality of life.
